Baicheng Jiang is a Chinese composer studying in the United States. As a classically trained pianist with extensive and renowned conductor and orchestra experience, when everyone thought Baicheng was going to be a professional pianist, he made a somewhat "wayward" move by studying film and game music instead and trying his hand at arranging music. He chose an Offer from the Johns Hopkins Peabody School of Music to study in the United States, "because I was more interested in this, wanted to work behind the scenes in the future, and preferred a more free working environment.” Since he learned piano and symphony at an early age, and as an electronic music lover and DJ, his music has always sought to combine traditional and modern innovative elements.

 

"There is no good or wrong, just want to get something new," Baicheng said that he also incorporates classical harmonies, classical symphonic elements, and now some electronic elements when composing film and television scores. At the same time, he wanted to play "something new."

So Trance Nation, the operating label, experimented with symphonies and electronics. We gathered some DJ who play Trance, and we invited a small symphony orchestra of 20 people to collaborate with the DJ on several occasions. Baicheng, who has experience with a symphony orchestra, was able to orchestrate this section. In foreign countries, this form is relatively common, but in China is novel.

During his undergraduate studies, he also worked on many interesting projects. Play Studio, his personal music team, has released some music and visual NFT on open-sea. He worked with director Michael Yang on the experimental animation Hypnogogic and has participated in a series of film festivals. He made the music part of the experimental visual dance “ZOMIA”, with China Academy of Art. He is also the music producer of WhiteHole Universe, the first meta-universe virtual rock band in China, and has released related albums and vinyl. He also participated in the production of music for the 2023 Chinese film Never Say Never.

Baicheng is also a teacher, when teaching students, he was mainly responsible for film and television music, game music, and the direction of classical genres. Music theory, Orchestration, playing method of different instruments, division arrangement, including electric sound, synthesizer part in sound design. Baicheng likes to talk with his students about music. In the process of chatting, he can exchange his views and ideas and burst out a lot of inspiration. When we talk about something, we study and make it together. Therefore, his class mode is quite relaxed, without strict time delay, pressure, and compulsion.
